SELECTIONS FROM THE
CONTEMPORARY'S FLAT FILES (June 30 – August 20,
2006)
This exhibition features work that was submitted to our
newly established Contemporary's Flat Files. In an
interest to make the talent of Midwest artists more visible
and accessible, the Contemporary is please to launch this
program and does so with the ever changing exhibition
Selections from the Contemporary's Flat Files. The
Flat Files were created through an open invitation to
artists residing in the state of Missouri and the metro east
section of Illinois. Artists were asked to submit small works
on paper. Selections from these submissions will be exhibited
in our gallery and change throughout the duration of the
exhibition. In part inspired by the success of the Flat File
program at Pierogi Gallery in Brooklyn - where the work of
over 700 artists are filed - the Contemporary is likewise
interested in introducing the work of more artists to a wider
public than is possible through our exhibition program only. A
permanent set of Flat Files will always be available
at the Contemporary and serve as a resource to artists,
curators, collectors, critics, dealers, and the general
public. Selections from the Contemporary's Flat Files
introduces new work by both artists familiar and unknown, work
by artists who may not usually work on paper or at a small
scale, and provide an ever-changing and interactive way of
experiencing art.
